Smart control for existing HVAC.
We find ways to connect smart controls with existing HVAC. Every solution begins with the equipment and conditions on site.
Thinking for Comfort.
Thinking for Comfort. reflects the way we work.
We keep thinking about how our products can become better, and we build products that increasingly understand, learn and adapt.
Our focus is the indoor climate — creating a healthier environment while continuously seeking a better balance between comfort and energy efficiency.
We think to make our products better. Our products think to make people more comfortable.
The Dropair Story
From the first spark of curiosity to connecting existing HVAC with new possibilities.
It started with curiosity.
Our story began with curiosity about a product that made complex technology feel simple and human. One question led to another: how to turn it on, how to connect it, how to understand its response. More than a decade later, the questions have grown. We are still following them.
A question worth following.
In 2013, curiosity led us to the Nest Learning Thermostat. It brought hardware, software and interaction together in a way we had not seen in a thermostat before.
Our first question was simply how to turn it on. The next was whether it could control the HVAC systems around us. That question set us on this path.
Learning the language of HVAC.
We began by soldering wires to a wall controller, simulating a finger pressing its buttons. Then we added state detection, because sending a command was not enough. We needed to know whether the equipment had responded.
Infrared, four-wire control and two-wire communication followed. Each step took us deeper into protocols, operating states and the differences between HVAC systems. Complexity behind the wall should become simplicity for the person using it.
Built beside real installations.
Our adapters worked quietly behind the thermostat, helping familiar controls reach more kinds of equipment. Real installations taught us what a specification sheet could not: buildings, wiring and people rarely behave in exactly the same way.
A product experience continues after delivery. Questions come back through Dropair Services, into our understanding and into the lab. Service helps solve today’s problem—and helps shape tomorrow’s product.
From Beijing to Tokyo.
In 2013, we began testing different HVAC systems together at Dropair Labs Beijing. We moved our headquarters to Tokyo in 2020 and opened Dropair Lab Tokyo in 2025.
The Beijing Lab taught us how to test HVAC systems. The Tokyo Lab lets us live with them. HVAC, sensors, connected technologies and everyday behavior can work together over time, revealing what happens after people move in.
Starting again with IoT.
In 2024, we started learning again. We explored Tuya, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, bridges and different paths into the connected home. We took wrong turns, rebuilt things and gradually moved toward a native Matter direction.
Those detours clarified what we wanted to build. Connectivity was a starting point. Our next products should increasingly understand the equipment and its surroundings, learn from use and adapt with purpose.
Thinking for Comfort.
Comfort changes with the person, activity, humidity, airflow, season and building. Dropair Climate is our next direction: indoor climate intelligence centered around people. Our IoT products and App are planned for release in 2026.
Labs explores and tests. Products puts our engineering into everyday use. Services brings real experience back into development. Together, they support a healthier indoor climate and a better balance between comfort and energy efficiency.

Complete chronology
The Idea Begins
In 2013, Nest came to China. Dropair Labs Beijing took shape. A first adapter demo turned an idea into something real.
Taking Shape
In 2014, the Pro2 development prototype gave the first adapter a clearer product form.
More HVAC
From 2015 to 2016, connections expanded from fan coil units to VRV and VRF systems, while the Nest app was localized for Chinese users.
Growth Accelerates
In 2017, Google and Nest’s Asia Pacific smart home marketing leadership visited Dropair Labs. An NDA with Google opened the way for further work.
More Thermostats
In 2018, the work grew beyond Nest, extending to Ecobee and other intelligent thermostat platforms.
Going Global
From 2019 to 2020, Dropair expanded overseas. The headquarters moved from Beijing to Tokyo in 2020. A new city, and the same curiosity.
Products + Services Worldwide
From 2021 to 2023, Mini6S was introduced and Pro6X continued to evolve. Products and technical services reached 54 countries during this period.
The IoT Journey
In 2024, a new IoT journey began. From platform connections toward native connected HVAC, and ultimately, toward Matter.
Dropair Lab Tokyo
In 2025, Dropair Lab Tokyo was completed. HVAC, the building, sensors and real life came together in a space for long-term testing.
A New Beginning
Nest⁺ Smart Adapter and Dropair Thinking Thermostat, together with the Dropair app, are planned for release this year — bringing Matter into the Dropair ecosystem. A new chapter in IoT begins.

Start with the equipment.
We plan connections around the equipment on site. We bring hardware, embedded software and installation experience together to check what each system needs.

From prototypes to two evolving product lines.
We tested our ideas through the Pro1 to Pro3 prototypes, then moved into production with Pro4 and Mini4. We have kept refining both the Pro and Mini lines; Mini6, Mini6S and Mini6X form the Mini6 Series.
